  why Zinc?

RIDCO Casting Company

Zinc is essential to life.  This natural element is found in the Earth, in all cells of the body, in the food you eat, and in products all around.  As a matter of fact, the U.S. penny is made from 98% zinc with a copper plating finish. Zinc die casting alloys are completely recyclable.

More than 1/3 of the zinc consumed annually is produced from recycled material.   Zinc is truly an environmentally friendly engineering material.

Some of the advantages of Zinc:

  • Assembly operations are reduced because components can be combined as a one-piece design.
  • Less material is required because of our thin wall capabilities thus making parts with less weight and greater cost savings to our customers.
  • Machining operations are reduced because of the ability to cast net shape sections which reduce the need for costly non value-added secondary operations.
  • Very Long Die Life. We have been running certain die cast dies since the late 1950s, using our internal quality control checks and insuring our die cast dies are kept up to the highest quality.
  • Eliminate the need for bearings or bushings because of zinc's high die cast bearing properties allowing for greater design flexibility.
  • High Strength
  • High Rigidity
  • High Impact Strength and Ductility
  • High Hardness
  • Conductivity - Thermal and Electrical
  • Non-sparking and non-magnetic
  • Fatigue strength
  • Pressure tightness
  • Excellent Dampening Properties
  • Corrosion resistance
